Sunday evening we were treated to a wonderful service of worship as the children's choir, the youth choir, and the chancel choir joined to make joyful music in celebration of the Christmas season. The night was simply outstanding! That kind of occasion is important in the life of the church. We have many people who have been gifted by God and their faithful response to those gifts make worship services like last Sunday evening's possible. Last Sunday also gives our children and youth an opportunity to understand that they, too, have been gifted and their gifts need to find avenues of expression. Stated simply, we had a joyous time celebrating God's gift of Jesus to the world.
This is the last newsletter of the year. And as a new year approaches, we will be without the official services of two important people: Pastor Earl Goodwin and Music Director Carolyn Key. I want to say to both that your work will be missed. But, the seeds that have been sown through your work will continue to bring positive growth and effective ministry for many years. The church, this church, is richer and deeper because of you. God will continue to use your gifts, and we look forward to continued ministry with you both.
Finally, from your pastor, Tracy, and our family we hope that all of you have a blessed Christmas season. It's hard to believe that a year has slipped by since we arrived in Alabaster. I hope many more slip by as well. Your gracious support of our work and your commitment to the ministry of this congregation continue to be a wellspring of joy and a source of hope for us. As God continues to lead us on God's chosen path, may we, together, continue to be faithful to God's call and find in our serving God and neighbor the true source of happiness and contentment that God desires for God's faithful people.
Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the presence of the Holy Spirit continue to be upon you and yours, this day and forevermore. AMEN.
Grace and peace, Pastor Mark
