On Saturday I drove to Nashville. Sunday night meant back from Nashville to Alabaster. Monday morning found me in to the office and on a flight to Baltimore. From Baltimore, I drove to Annapolis for an afternoon of meetings. Tuesday brought a drive to Pennsylvania for meetings followed by a drive to Baltimore and a flight back to Birmingham. Wednesday and Thursday were long days in the office catching up on what wasn't done on Monday and Tuesday. On Friday, I received a call from Pastor Mark who was back in his office after a week of Junior Camp. We caught up on session meetings, various church business, a discussion about prayer concerns and upcoming surgery for church members..."Oh, and could you write an article for the newsletter? I am off to CPYC in ten minutes. Denise will send the newsletter out first thing Tuesday." "Sure," I said. "No problem."

Saturday brought yard work and a park dedication. Sunday was filled with Sunday school, worship and family celebration of the forth. Monday found me back in the office for half a day and then off to the in-laws.

On Tuesday I received a page from the always calm and patient Denise who reminded me that she had not received my article for the newsletter. I apologized. Denise very politely said it was not a problem and asked that I get her something for Wednesday morning (this is why your newsletter is late this week). I finished the day at the office and went by to check on our church members who had undergone surgery that day. At eight o'clock I sat at the table and asked Kris what words of wisdom she wanted to share with our church family. Kris smiled and pushed Isaac my way. I looked at Isaac and said "Speak boy speak ? there is so much to be done - help your old man out!" Isaac smiled a cherub's smile and from underneath his curls said, "Grrr hsh mmm dop."

Now you may not know what that means but I am pretty sure it was Hebrew (almost no vowels). I said, "Son, your are genius." You see, I know what he was telling me was slow down, hug your children, enjoy your friends, love, laugh, sing and pray because "what does the Lord require of you but to do kindness, love justice and walk humbly with your Lord."

Out of the mouth of babes...and Isaac " Mmm zeez oush" (thanks son).

Grace and Peace

Pastor Tom
