VBS Moments

We've all seen it. That one great picture that makes us catch our breath and pause for just a minute, as our minds immediately embrace the memory of what the moment meant. Someone famous once said that life is a series of "Kodak moments".

Just saying the words ? Vacation Bible School ? also invokes fond memories and, I'm sure, some mental "Kodak moments". I submit to you several of my favorites ? my own personal top 5 ? if you will.

  1. The denomination's largest banana split (or messiest hot fudge sundae)
  1. Painting ?,000 peanuts gold for money for the Marketplace
  1. Those crazy rope-making Miller boys
  1. Making baskets with Miss Nina
  1. Duckie's peanut butter and jelly mix

More importantly, I remember smiles and hugs, laughter and thank you's. I remember the feeling inside when one child was overheard to say, "I can't wait to come back tomorrow!". And I remember the feeling that being God's servant and walking the walk gave me. Fulfilling the promise I made to each of these children when they were baptized is ? well ? it's awesome! Come to think of it ? didn't I hear you make the same promise? Our kids need us this week. They don't need teachers, artists, coaches, or crafty people. They need caring family. They need mentors to share with them and to show them what this faith thing is all about. Find a way to be there for our kids. What a moment that will be!
