Our 2010 VBS is fast approaching!  This year it will be condensed into the last weekend of June (starting Friday evening, June 25). Our VBS theme this year is “Baobab Blast”.

What is a Baobab?Baobab (bä´ōbăb´´) is a gigantic tree found in Africa that creates its own ecosystem. The Baobab is called the “Tree of Life” and because of its hollowed-out trunk, leaves, foliage, nectar, fruit, and bark it can provide shelter, food, and water for the animal and human inhabitants of the African savannah region. The baobab tree serves as a meeting place for many people to gather, discuss, and share stories.At Baobab Blast, the baobab tree is the central figure—the hub of activity, energy, and life. The baobab tree supports and invites community. In fact, the baobab tree is a symbol of community.

As the sun rises and sets on the savannah,kids will have the opportunity to hear the Word, be amazed at God’s wildlife creations, and be a part of a supportive community. Thru the characters Faye the Zebra, Amy the Monkey, Bud the Elephant, Sam the Meercat, and Jonathan the Giraffe the children will learn stories of trust, love, following Jesus as a community of friends, caring for others, and sharing our faith.

This 3 day VBS promises to be a wonderful experience for both children and adults as we see that “From East to West, the powerful Lord God has been calling together everyone on earth.”  (Psalm 50:1)    

Meet the characters:

Faye the Zebra- theme Trust Bible story: Abraham goes to Canaan: God calls Abraham and tells him to move to a new land. Abraham trusts the Lord and celebrates his new home. (Genesis 12:1-9) Bible memory verse "Let the LORD lead you and trust him to help." (Psalm 37:5) Community connection : We trust God to guide and lead us.

Amy the Monkey= theme:  Love Bible story:Joseph and his brothers: Joseph shows love to his family by loving and caring for his brothers. (Genesis 37:41-45)  Bible memory verse: “Love never fails.” (1 Corinthians 13:8) Community connection:We love as God loves because we are a part of God’s family.

Bud the Elephant = theme: Follow Bible story:Jesus calls the disciples: Jesus creates a community by calling the disciples. (Luke 5:1-11, 27-32; 6:12-16; 8:1-30)  Bible memory verse: “I will study your teachings and follow your footsteps.” (Psalm 119:18)  Community connection:We follow Jesus as a community of friends.

Sam the Meerkat= theme:Care Bible story:The Good Samaritan: The Good Samaritan cares for a stranger. (Luke 10:25-37)Bible memory verse:“Our LORD, you chose me to care for your people.” (Jeremiah 17:16) Community connection:We care for others.

Jonathan the Giraffe = theme:Share Bible story:Phillip and the Ethiopian: Philip shares his faith with the Ethiopian. (Acts 8:26-40) Bible memory verse:“Share your faith with others.” (Philemon 1:6) Community connection:We share our faith with the whole community of believers
