There are five core values that this congregation has chosen to express. They are faith, acceptance and support, mission, children and youth, and dignity. Every newsletter that goes out has these values highlighted and emboldened. The ad that the church will be running in the Alabaster newsletter will include these values. They are posted on the wall as you move from the Sunday School areas to the sanctuary. By our actions, it is apparent that we hold these values to be essential in defining who we understand God is calling us to be.

This Sunday we will have the good grace of God surrounding us through the children and youth of our church as they lead all aspects of the worship service. It has been mentioned on a couple of occasions that serving and leading services of worship are important, formative times for the children and youth. It is vital to their continued growth and nurture in the church to understand that they have responsible roles to play, important work to do as church people. As the older people of God at Elliottsville we have the responsibility to make opportunities for growth and nurture available to our young disciples.

Sunday is an important day because we are celebrating the gifts and talents of the youth and children of this congregation. Sunday is also an important day because perhaps we will take time to see how connected we are to each other and how dependent each of our core values are upon the other. The church expresses faith and acceptance and support in and of our youth and children. In turn they receive the call to accomplish the tasks that are necessary as worship participants and leaders. Together, the entire congregation, regardless of age unites in a time of celebration in which we give openly to others and receive gladly their gifts in return.

We believe everyone matters. We believe all people are children of God. We believe we exist for the purpose of serving others. We are a caring congregation. Our lives center around Jesus Christ. These words are our stated beliefs, who we are. This Sunday will be a great celebration of all that we hold dear. Let's make sure that every Sunday, indeed, every day is that same kind of celebration.

Grace and peace,

Pastor Mark
