I am a child of God?..a work in progress. I am a wife, mother and teacher. I grew up in Saginaw, attended Camp Branch United Methodist Church and went to school at Camp Branch Community School until it was closed, then Thompson Elementary and graduated from Shelby Academy. My daddy, Melvin Hardwick, owned and operated OK Rubber Welders. My mother, Lois Hardwick, was the Post Master of Alabaster for several years ? one of the people she worked with was Mr. Morris Prestridge, and I remember seeing Ms. Duckie off and on during my childhood! My older sister, Jane Riley, was a teacher, counselor and principal of Thompson Middle School until she retired. My younger sister, Jerrilynne Chambers, is a teacher at TMS, also. All of my family still live in Saginaw?......I defected to Georgia, Demopolis, and finally, Helena. We have completed 24 years of marriage and teaching ? and we both still have our hair!!! Brother E.M. Williams and Larry Adcock married Jon Bubbett and I at Camp Branch on June 5, 1981. It was the last wedding Brother Williams presided over, and the first for Larry. The church was full of family and friends, but mainly members of the church who had all had a hand in raising me - Sunday school teachers, MYF teachers, Bible school teachers, choir members??all the people of God who helped make me who I am today. After Jon and I married we taught in Washington, Georgia, for four years. Then we moved to Demopolis, Alabama, and finally to Helena when I was hired at Thompson Middle & High. Jon taught at Erwin High School in Roebuck for three years before becoming the band director at Thompson High School. He is my ?other half? ? that which makes me complete?. Our children, Miles and Mallory, are precious gifts from God. Every stage of their lives is ?our favorite?, and sometimes we still can?t believe we?re the parents of such precious children! Our love for them fills up every corner of our hearts. I am amazed at how God takes us full circle. I grew up here, moved away, taught hundreds of children over the years, and now I?m back where I started from teaching the children of the children that I grew up with?.how incredible is that??!! I?m able to give back all of the wonderful blessings God gave me during my childhood to the children of the very same community. Sometimes mission work can be done right in our own backyards! |
